We also have a big black doggie I rescued back in May or June last year - Sable. She is a pit-bull/Akita/lab type mix, but very sweet - my neighbor fosters her as I don't have a fenced yard. She's been on our website since we had her, with no luck, plus I spent $50 on newspaper ads with no suitable adopters applying. However, a couple from Charlotte just found her via a web search. They have a pit-bull mix the same age, he is their baby - rescued, spent $300 on training him, they drove two hours to come see Sable and we waited with bated breath and all paws and fingers crossed to see if they'd choose her as they'd looked at another dog somewhere else, too. They brought Spike with them, and he and Sable seemed to like each other. They live in a townhouse where Spike has his own room and bed in the garage, but are buying a house and moving into it in four weeks - 1/3 acre fenced. They were even willing to pay any additional homeowners premium for having this type dog (we just hope no-one cancels them, insurance cos are funny about some breeds - but they can say she's a mix). Anyway, we knew we couldn't get anyone better for Sable - and they just e-mailed and said they have picked her. We are so excited, and Sable's whole body wagged!!! So black dogs and black kitties do get some good endings.
By the way, as a PS to last story about Velvet, Velvet had to have her eye removed eventually, but she did just fine. And I've told this story before, but it is cute and true - Velvet always takes one eye off of her toy mice to make them one-eyed like her!
