Re: the Interferon with old kitties. Boots is 12 going on 13 and has been on Interferon now for 6 years. He is in early chronic renal failure - diagnosed a year ago February - and he continues to thrive. He still takes Interferon and lysine daily in addition to his renal stuff - SubQ's 5 times a week, Pepcid AC twice a day and Periactin once a day to keep his appetite up.
He looks healthier now than he did 6 months ago before his first crash. The Interferon continues to keep his gum and mouth problems from errupting and today, knock on wood, he's a healthy active senior.
I would never hesitate to give Interferon to an older kitty. Age really doesn't matter. Interferon fights viruses at any age!

Karen That's wonderful exciting news! Congrats and purrs to you and C.I use Vitamin C regularly, but only with my old cats (who tend more toward constipation than otherwise!). ANyhow, I use about 250mg - 500 mg daily - think I used 250mg Vit C with Lucy twice a day, and also 250 mg Lysine (for eye infections). Right now with Nicky, I use 500 mg-750 every other day or so.
I did not have Lucy on interferon - she died in December, age 18. My old kitties tend to kidney problems, and I'm not sure if it's ok or not to use Interferon with cats with kidney problems. But since C is young, that's not an issue.
Don't know about DMG either, but I'm interested in learning more.
Best of luck -
Gloria
