The IFA detects whether the leukemia virus is replicating in the white blood cells and bone marrow. Usually, if this is negative that's good news. But, I understand from being on this List that sometimes the virus can be 'hiding' in the bone marrow and that requires a PCR for a definitive answer. The IFA requires a blood draw and not a bone marrow aspirate. The PCR does require a bone marrow aspirate.
Thank you, that is what I understood vet thought it required bone marrow aspirate. He's a sweetheart but is learning this disease, too!
