Clindamycin is derivative of lincomycin.It is a newer antibiotic effective i treating a variety of bacterial infections, including those caused by anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that grow in the absense of oxygen). Anaerobes are fairly common infections of teeth, bone, joints, and lining of the lung (pleura), or in blood infections.Clindamycin is one of the antibiotics of choice for deep pyodermas (skin infections) and abscesses. Clindamycin is also the treatment of choice for Toxoplasma infection (toxoplasmosis) in cats and dogs. May also be used for serious mixed infections or blood infections.
