Yesterday I called a friend of mine to try to get some terramycin. she had that AND viroptic! so i started cc on it. but her eye was looking very bad. She ate early yesterday and then refused all food. That meant I couldn't get her antibiotic down... So i finally just took her to emergency around 4.
They said uri seemed not to be 'out of hand'... lungs sounded good, no fever, maybe a little dehydrated but nothing major at that point. Said the eye was really bad. which I knew already. Eye was so swollen you couldn't see hardly anything but the swelling. The doc said they couldn't even look for corneal ulcer till it swelling came down some. But they kept the viroptic and added another antibiotic to cover all bases on eye till we could tell what was going on.
they kept her overnight basically because i'm having such a hard time pilling her. this morning they said she's about the same. they said they did put an iv in.. but i'm betting that was to make it easier for them to medicate her themselves....
she had not lost a lot of weight either. still weighs nearly 13 pounds. cbc was good. white count showed infection but nothing too out of hand according to vet. pcv, rbc... anemia things were all fine.
she is supposed to see the opthamologist today. i am going to ask the opthamologist about just removing the eye. that way we wouldn't have to deal with this herpes thing again? both times it was in the same eye. I hate to put her through the viroptic thing again. I don't know.

Tonya, my regular vet did the eyelid-closing surgery for $50. If she has an
ulcer on the cornea, that might be the best way to handle it. If it is just
inflammation of the eyelids and eye, then oral and topical meds will have to
be used.
It might have been the stress of actually going to the vet, coupled with
whatever stresses brought on the tummy-licking and soreness, and then the
added stress of the sore itself, that brought out her herpes again - they
carry it and it goes dormant but flares up when they are stressed for one
reason or another.
