outweigh the negatives, IMO. People should
with hold their opinions until they look at PETA's
web site and all of the info on it. There are
some great vegetarian recipes there too.

Hi Rachel,
I have been a member of PETA since I was twelve. Over the years, I have joined four other animals rights groups. The peta as we know it today is not the same as it was then. Nowadays there is a lot of controversy and opposition when one mentions the word peta. The way I look at it is that they aren't perfect. They have made mistakes and on the way some of their actions were questionable. But in the end thay have still done so much for animal rights and the good that they have done certainly in my opinion outweighs the negative. As one of the oldest and largest animal rights groups in the world they will certainly be criticized and scrutinized more then any other animal groups. It's human nature. They are in the media all the time, it's not hard to criticize them.
I have posted these animal alerts to other animal/pet groups and they aren't always welcomed. Sometimes, I don't even realize the alerts are from peta because what I do care about are the animals that are in need of our help in those articles. I don't care if it is from peta, greenpeace...as long as the group is helping animals that is what is the most important to me. Often people read the articles and want to help but once they see it's from peta they don't want to help anymore. Then a whole debate starts and people forget the actual intentions of the alerts that I posted...which is...there are still cats being killed that need our help...don't we care about them anymore?
Because the articles were written by peta? So, forget about them?
I don't agree with peta all the time and sometimes it embarasses me the way they do things with celebrities and so forth...but through all of that they have still accomplished a lot for the issue of animal rights. The positive things that they have done such as bringing peoples attention to anti fur, veggie diet, farm animals, circus animals....is an incredible accomplishment. There is not one group out there that is perfect. So, it's hard or me not to support a group that has done so much for animals despite the errors they have made on the way...

Amber,
Thank you for the updates. I'll have some letters in the mail over this weekend.
May I ask, are you a PETA member? Just being nosy.
Let me say, that my next comment is ONLY my opinion and I am not judging anyone and am not criticizing anyone for the particular organizations that they may or may not support. I had thought PETA got involved only in super-fanatical stuff that I don't entirely agree with and I actually visited their main site and read up on some of their other alerts and was impressed. I still have some disagreements with them, but I have certainly had a change of opinion on them.
Do keep their alerts coming when you see ones like this.
THANKS,
Rachel
