Gloria, turpentine comes from pine trees. Since I am from the
South, I am proud of this still another bit of
history!!!!
Long ago in the south, and maybe still, they used to make a slash
in the tree and place a container underneath to catch the "pitch" or resin
from which it is made. They also marked the tree with a white "X".
Maybe it is a relative of the tea tree.!!!!

-----Original Message-----When I had ringworm as a kid, my grandmothers said to use Gentian Violet. It really works well. But it's awfully messy - turns things purple. I still buy it and use it on my dogs - but only when they're outside. Used it on myself a few years ago, but VERY carefully.

Hi Nancy,
Yes, that's the special bonus! You can share this lovely fungus with your
pet! Talk about togetherness! We were talking about it at the vet the
other night; there's a new one on staff and she remarked that if she hears
the word 'ringworm' she gets it. Many people don't get it at all. I've
had a few outbreaks (in my experience it does not tend to spring up in the
area you and the pet had contact; like I would have expected my hands or
wrists for sure, from petting, but instead, I got a spot on the back of my
calf! And it was winter, so I had on long pants!) that were easily and
completely cleared up by applying Lamisil for a few days. You can also use
Tea Tree Oil (DO NOT use on the cats) and it will get rid of it
lickety-split; it's a natural anti-fungal, however the scent is very harsh;
like turpentine (I think turpentine is actually somehow made from Tea Tree
Oil, or one of it's botanical relatives).
Here's a really interesting link about using essential oils with cats:

You can tell the spots because they will be round(ish), reddened skin with
a slight white crust over top or around the edges.
Good luck!

Thanks, guys. I'm off to the drugstore this morning, I guess, for
Lamisil~~~and I was going to mow my yard! Gosh darn! :-) I'll give it a
try and see how it goes. One more question~~~can I catch this from her?
She loves to sit on my chest (somewhat protuberant) and cuddle, in fact
I had to chase her off to write! Do people get it from
animals, and
what are the signs in people? Will I lose my eyebrows, or what? Nancy
