My veterinarian, Gretchen, asked me to bring a question to the List because I am always telling her how much more most of you know than even many vets. I have even given her new information on Felv and she really is quite brilliant.
Gretchen is thinking of instead of just administering the Felv test she should change to using the felv/fiv test only. She feels that the test has now been around long enough to have proved its efficacy. She is concerned about the higher cost to her clients for the combination test, but she feels that there are many more felv+/fiv cats and fiv only cats out there who are not being tested.
She would like to know from all of your experiences and research the following:
1) What percentage of cats are most likely felv+ and fiv?
2) What percentage of all cats are probably undiagnosed fiv?
3) Do you feel that the felv+/fiv cats are in a higher percentage category because they have one disease (felv) already?
I don't know if asking you these questions is redundant and has already been discussed on the List, but I am thousands of emails behind so please forgive me if that is the case.
Thanks for your help. I will print your replies and send to my vet, Gretchen.
