HI Barb - yes, if one cat goes to the vet and the other doesn't they will smell funny.. Teddy growls at my Bandit after he's been to the vet.

Anyway, my Bandit has IBD and Teddy has hyper T... so.... bandit had the scope down the throat test done and they said yes, a lot of inflammation... food may not necessarily be the culprit and you are feeding good stuff... you may want to consider a short term use of metronidazole.. it will help with the inflammation, then get him on L-Glutamine.. it really helps with the intestinal walls and guts and building them back up etc. Then try fish oil... natural anti-inflammatory and good omega 3's. If he hates fish oil, then try some flaxseed. Mix into wet food. keep up the digestive enzymes and you can also consider adding slippery elm bark. Either open the capsule and sprinkle on food or make into a syrup with mixing with cold water and boiling until thick.

For the hyper T.... not sure why the results are taking a week??? should almost get those overnight... anyway... if it comes back that he does have hyper T... I have not seen much by way of "holistic" methods .. it's an endochrine problem and I think you pretty much needs real meds. before starting on anything like tapezole you need to make sure the kidney function is good. Start on a low dose.. Teddy got 1/2 pill per day and then we re-tested after a week.. still high, but continued on the 1/2 pill.. 2 more tests revealed it was still not going back to normal, so added 1/4 pill in the a.m. and 1/2 pill in p.m.. after a week of this her levels became normal, so that is what she is on.. .you don't want to give too much right off the bat... better to start low and see what works. I'm considering the radio-active iodine treatment for teddy. she is still young (8 1/2) and so far all her other functions.. kidney, liver, etc are all normal.. so she is a good candidate.

Good luck with baby Bandito!

Thank you all for so much support and input. The two things the vet is thinking at this point is IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) or a thyroid problem. Everything in his abdomen looks absolutely normal (apart from thickened intestinal walls) and NO FABRIC LOL This is good because it means while he's ingesting my clothing etc grrrrrr, he's also passing it.

His hyperactivity could be connected to a thyroid problem, so we'll have to wait for the blood work (about a week) and then we'll see. The only symptoms of IBD that I know are what the vet told me about inappetance and thickened intestinal walls. I'll have to do some research on that and thyroid problems. And he definitely isn't eating the way he used to. As far as allergies..... I just don't know. We've run the gamut of foods for Smoky with his chronic bloody butt problem, and Bandit has gotten whatever the flavor of the day is by default. He is notorious for having a cast iron gut and his fur and skin are in excellent condition. The food they've been on for about 4 months is Waltham's Special Protein Duck and Rice. This is sprinkled daily with Prozyme and metamucil. Since we found out about his drastic weight loss (1.5 pounds in about 5 months) we've been supplementing his diet with treats and trying to tempt him with yummy stuff. He is absolutely NUTS for fresh!
ly cooked ground chuck (only the best for my baby:)) and is quite fond of turkey bacon. And I think it's helping because he hasn't lost any weight.

Poor Bandit was terrified when I picked him up from the vet's. He was shaking like a leaf - shudders going through his body and shaking him:( pobre gato. He looks sooooo skinny where they shaved him - he's built like a cheetah, so losing the hair on his narrow tummy makes it even narrower. But he's playing and VERY happy to be home (he's currently curled up on the little tree next to me sleeping).

Can anyone tell me if this has happened with their kits??? According to my husband, Smoky, formerly the good cat -currently known as Garbage Digging Boy or that sneaky bastard, was beating up on Bandit for at least an hour after we got Bandit back home. Now, since Smoky has lost weight, he's been more frisky and obnoxious and more prone to starting the boxing and wrestling matches, but that ticked me off cuz Bandit had a very traumatic day and I just wanted home to be a very comforting environment for him and an HOUR???? Granted, getting picked on by your brother is a sure sign you're safe at home. Could this have been normal obnoxiousness exacerbated by the funny smells on Bandit? Or the large shaved patch? I just don't know. They've settled down (for now), but my sweet mellow gentle Smoky has turned into a stinker.

Thanks for listening to me babble:) I'll let you know what the test results are.
