That prompts me to share the letter I wrote to Jeb Bush about the horrific new policy they are proposing (was that posted on this list? can't remember).

Dear Governor Bush,
Regarding this issue:
On May 30, 2003, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will
vote on a proposed policy to "prohibit the
release, feeding or protection of cats…" throughout Florida. If this policy
is adopted it will result in the killing of hundreds of thousands of feral
and free-roaming cats in Florida.
Please, I beg of you, spare the lives of innocent sweet cats in your state that are homeless due to the fault of human indifference. Please try to fix the problem from where it began. Please try to change things for the good by mass education efforts via the media so that people can see that it is THEIR fault there is a problem and that they can fix the problem by spaying and neutering their pets and by responsible pet ownership in general, (i.e: don't dump your cats if you decide you don't want one after all).
This policy is barbaric. Please try to turn your state into an area to be admired not abhorred for its violent, primitive reactions.

I did get a reply saying that they forwarded my email to the director of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Here's hoping....
