Gloria, I know when I purchased interferon and asked the vet she looked on the manufacture label and it said 90 days frigerated. I think it had if frozen and not defrosted there was not expiration but she felt 1 year should be the expiration. The vet had to take it out and diluted it 1/2 hour before picking it up. She showed it to me and they came in small viles.
Maybe it has to do with the manufacture on the shelf life. Just like know there is a debate about vaccinating cats and dogs. If you look up vaccines there are articles saying that it is good for 3 years yet the vet has you come in yearly. There are articles and studies that once the intal vaccines have been giving the cat doesn't need vaccines or after 10 years the cat has enough immune stored up that vaccines are no longer required.
