Some shelters like Defenders of Animal Rights, Inc, a.k.a. Adopt A Pet in Phoenix, Maryland SAY that all their cats are tested for FeLV & FIV, but don't infact test any...or at least didn't when I volunteered there.

adopt them off?<<Unfortunantly it is not mandatory for shelters to do anything. It all just depends on the shelter, many dont require vaccines, spay/neuter..anything. not even back ground checks most of the times they will adopt..or give away to anyone. A GOOD shelter will, check, and do backgrounds on adopters etc...but mmost do not....>>I guess your right. I wouldn't give him back at that point. It's only
been a week since the other one left and my heart is still breaking over
it. They told me I have to bring him back in 3 months to get tested
again. I had him get vaccinated last week, now he's to go back in 3
months for the second vaccine also<<Also the general rule of thumb is get a negative test result..or any for that matter...retest in 3 months.....if it is still negative..THEN give first FeLV vaccine, then go back in 2 weeks and get the booster....We look forward to seeing you and your family there!!!!!
