Hi Kathy, Is Killian and indoor only cat? I would say with a great degree of certainty that Killian didn't get it from the new kitty, but has had it all her life. If they were seperated there really isn't a possiblity of her contacting it from that cat. The virus dies pretty much in seconds outside the host. If she is indoor / outdoor she may have picked it up at anytime. It is possible for a kitty to get it from mom or very shortly after birth and still live to an older age. Most do not but there are always exceptions. If she was tested the only absolutely reliable test is the PCR, it will detect it even if the virus is hiding and dormant in the bone marrow. It is a type of DNA test, other tests may or may not be accurate, the elisha is the least accurate of all of the different tests.
My FeLV+ was positive at 5 months of age when he found me and I have no idea how much before that he was infected, he very well could have been born with it, he certainly got it at a very young age. He is currently 9 years old and very healthy except for stomatisis which we are working on. -- Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats ...
