Title: Message
You might have been describing my situation, and feelings, Melissa.
I feel guilty enough as it is, because I didn't separate Mickey from his siblings when the sibs all tested pos and he came up neg. (I didn't want to risk upsetting him further, as he had just lost his sister to FeLV, and came to me subsequently so he cd be with his other sibs and hopefully head off depression. He's still fairly withdrawn.)
In the most recent test they all had, Mickey came up positive this time too.
Of course I will never know if he actually had the virus all along. But nonetheless, that I may have caused him to be positive by putting him in with his sibs does not make me feel good. Every time I look at his sweet, soulful little face I wonder if I could have prevented it, and I regret not coming up with a better solution. I figured that because he'd been living with positive sibs for the previous several months, he was probably immune. He wasn't, it turned out. Kerry

Well, it's a calculated risk.

I know a few people who have mixed their positive and negative cats without ill effects, but what you need to decide for yourself is--what would you do and whow would you feel if one of your healthy cats did get sick?

I keep my healthy cat and FeLV fosters separate because I couldn't stand the what-if scenario. The vaccine isn't 100% effective and while it is tougher for an adult cat to contract the illness, and not that easy for the illness to pass from one cat to the other, it happens and that risk was too high for me. But, my healthy cat had not already been exposed to the fosters, so when we found out they were FeLV positive we just continued to quarantine them, we didn't have to separate them. It might be different if your cats are vaccinated and have been living with the existing positive cat for some time already. I just don't know.

Melissa
