I happened to be at vet today and he told me that there is a new FIV vaccine about to come out; going to be combined with FELV vaccine. He said earlier vaccines were not particularly useful but he felt optomistic about this version because it is aimed at a particular strain. I did not really get a lot of info since, (knock on wood!), that's not something any of my guys have to deal with but thought I'd pass his comment on... didn't know if anyone else had heard this....

I really don't understand the big deal everyone is making about mixing FIV+ cats with negative ones. It's not that easy to transmit the FIV cat to cat. It takes a bite. We currently have an FIV+ cat who has lived inside with our negative cats for several years. This is our 2nd FIV+ cat. We've never had any issues with the others being infected. In fact, my 17 year old has been around both of our FIV+ males & he's negative & healthy (except for the usual geriatric cat stuff)! I keep seeing all these cats for adoption that are FIV+ & people not wanting to mix them. I think this is crazy. These cats deserve better. I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while. So there...I've said it! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Karen Olio Sent: Thursday, October 14, 2004 2:52 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: FIV+ sites? Hi Everyone, A little while ago there was some discussion about mixing FIV+ cats in with FIV- ones and several people posted some great resources/web sites. Unfortuanately, I can't find those posts anywhere:( I have just had a request for info from someone who can't find a home for an FIV+ cat (very gentle) and is afraid to mix it with her own. If anyone could repost thise sites so that I can pass them along, I'd greatly appreciate it. Karen --
