Dear Harmony: I am assuming you are asking how to get rid of fleas inside your house? Or also on the kittys??
What I have found works best in a house with carpeting is a product used by a company called FleaBusters. This company (for a substantial fee) will come and do your home and guarantee no more fleas for a year. You can buy the powder (not exactly cheap, either) and do it yourself for much less, of course. It is a white powder that you sprinkle on and then work it down into the carpet and vacuum up the excess. The active ingredient is boric acid, which is non-toxic to dogs and cats and other critters...it dessicates, or causes moisture loss, for insects like fleas and roaches and it is a very fine powder that electrostatically sticks to the fine leg hairs of insects so they carry it back to their nests. I have seen products for killing roaches at Home Depot that is much less expensive and it has the same active ingredient, boric acid. I may decide to try that next time and see if it works as well. My daughter used to get her small apartment done by FleaBusters...she had three cats and never had a flea problem. I was having a flea problem last spring and finally found a local source to get the product and have not had a recurrence since I applied it to the carpets. I have also used Sevin dust in my outdoor cat runs with good results but I do wonder about toxicity with that, though the cats don't spend much time on the ground and are usually hanging out on their above-ground perches. I find treating the carpets preferable to using something like Advantage or Frontline on an ongoing, regular basis. Those products are supposed to be "safe" but I had a cat go into toxic shock once from a spot-on flea product (Bio-spot) and she had to be taken to ER and have a blood transfusion the next day.
