Jill, try some warmed baby food, Gerber's chicken & gravy, turkey & gravy or beef & gravy, # 2 foods. Make certain the jar you pick up doesn't have any onions in it....You might find it will really start their appetite!

Long story short: my b/f and I adopted a cat from a
no-kill rescue group. She started having respiratory
symptoms within days and less than a week after
adoption we found out she's FeLV+ (IFA test
confirmed). She is 6-8 yrs old. The rescue group
didn't disclose this and other medical problems but

Although this brings a whole host of questions and
problems, my immediate concern now is that she is
being treated - so far unsuccessfully - for a bad
upper respiratory infection with some lung
involvement. We are finishing up a week's worth of
Clavamox 2x/day for any secondary bacterial infection
and she's on Interfernon 2x/day. She has had
sub-cutaneous fluids three times in one week and
hasn't eaten now since last Saturday. She does NOT
medicate well, the vet has to give her a tranquilizer
just to giver h! er fluids and the vet tech admitted it
is probably impossible to force feed her. We are
getting the liquid medications down *okay* (not great
but she does get them) and I'm wondering if any of you
have used a liquid diet supplement or have any advice.
I don't know that we are willing to do IV or tube
feeding as we've had the cat for less than 2 weeks and
were not expecting this AT ALL.
I'm thinking about using a syringe to give her KVM
mother's milk supplement and I have some PetCal (I
think it's called) that I will try to put on her paws
to see if she licks it off - that will be SOME
calorie/nutrition for her. I'm afraid she'll starve
to death in the next couple days.
P.S. the vet pilled her with an appetite stimulant and
decongestant yesterday and neither seemed to help.
Nose drops are difficult and not working well so we
are trying children's liquid decongestant tonight
(something like Dimetapp).
