Subject: OT: Sophie update

Hi everyone,
Sophie got a cleansing enema and then her scope later today so they will keep her until tomorrow morning.  Dr. Stanley was not very optimistic after doing the scope.  She said that the rectum is flaccid and dilated and also the anal structure that she created has failed, also.  She said she could use the semi-tendinosis on the opposite leg and redo the surgery but since this one failed, she did not think it would do any good.  She said the nerve damage to the rectal area is so severe that it caused too much straining and the breakdown of the previous surgery.  She does not have any ideas right now but will give thought to what might be possible, although it would be experimental.  She said that Sophie had won the war at one time but is losing it now.  She asked how much quality time Sophie has in relation to her life and I told her most of it is quality time, in my opinion.  She only gets stopped up once a week or so and I have been handling it at home and she does enjoy playtime and her food and lots of pets and the other cats.  So, I am not giving up yet.  If she gets no worse, I think we can manage, but of course, if her life becomes sad, I will have to maybe rethink.  I am thinking out loud here, not sure what to think right now. I do know that when she comes home tomorrow morning she will be moved upstairs and kept in her exercise pen for only 1 more week, time enough for her to get to know the cats upstairs and vice versa through the pen bars and then her Freedom Day will be next Thursday, November 4th.  The reasons that I was keeping her in the pen, to monitor her stools and to make sure she got her meds, don't seem to be helping her much, anyway, so I think it is time for us to go for it, let her have a full kitty life as much as she can, and we will play it by ear.  I do have a small "catfinder" device I will attach to a break-free collar that I will have her wear, just in case she hides from me for a long period at first, when I release her, but I figure I won't need to have to use that for long.

If new developments come up, I will sure let you all know.  Thank you all for being there and for your support, prayers, donations and caring.

Anne and Sophie
