Dear
Julie
I'm
really sorry to hear that Lucky's biopsy didn't produce the result
that you and all of us hoped for. That is such rotten news, and
yes, you must be absolutely devastated. I don't have any experience of
caring for a pet with mammary cancer but your comment>>>Lucky absolutely hates
going to the vet, so I have to weigh that against any potential
treatment<<< rings
loud bells. If I could turn the clock back I would not have put
Caramel through all the stress of catching him to give him the additional stress
of administering sub-Qs, so I'm with you when you say you're "leaning towards
strengthening her immune system and letting her live out her time in the
sunbeams she loves."
I wish Lucky the happiest year of
her life in 2005. I know she's going to be getting more hugs and cuddles than
she ever thought possible.
Sending zillions of hugs to
you and Lucky, Julie
love,
Kerryxxx

Dear Friends,
Lucky's biopsy came back last night (while I was at the vet with Wolf!) and
the mass is cancer; fibrosarcoma of the mammary gland. Apparently it is a
rather uncommon kind of cancer for that area; adenocarinoma is more
common.
They estimate that Lucky has +/- about a year of (probably) feeling well
and chemotherapy is not a good option for this kind of cancer and Wendy feels
the effects of radiation are so devastating that she would not use it for one of
her own cats.
Lucky absolutely hates going to the vet, so I have to weigh that against
any potential treatment. I did ask Wendy to speak with an oncologist and
see if anything else could be recommended for treatment. The closest
veterinary oncologist to me is 1.5 hours away; that would be a 3 hour round trip
for any treatment and it might not buy her much time.
I'm just devastated and feel so indecisive. I am sort of leaning
towards trying to strengthen her own immune system through supplements and
letting her live out her time in the sunbeams that she loves.
Does anyone else have experience with mammary cancer?
Sometimes everything just sucks.
Thanks for listening everyone.
Love, Julie
