I don't know about deranged, but, it would be easier for Chris to find another place to stay WITH her cats, then for her to find someone to take her cats for 8 months....esp. with the Felv, who knows what shape they would be in when she got them back!  If someone with others (who reg.takes in other cats) took them, they would be exposed to so much stress and so many different germs....
 
Tell Chris that Motel 6 DOES accept pets, and will rent long term...as do other inexpensive hotels, and the rates are usually a bit cheaper for long-terms.  If she goes to Google or a PETA website she can prob. find others.
