OK, while we are on the subject...or perhaps OFF the subject.....of toxic items....How about plants?
I can't seem to get consistant info. on which type of house plants are toxic. I have cats (only one of which will bother with the plants but....)
I just read in Martha Stewart magazine last night that african violets and begonias are NOT toxic....BUT....if Coebeio so much as rubs against my violets she foams at the mouth and breaks out in cat acne...and I had heard that begonias WERE TOXIC. The article said that spider plants WERE toxic...but my guinea pigs used to eat my spider plants like they were pasta and never seemed to suffer any harmful effects. I read that Pointsettas were edible...BUT also heard on tv that they are toxic to children and pets.....
Um...can I buy a vow here? Does anyone have a clue the could lend me? I don't like silk plants and LOVE real ones...but don't want to buy something that's going to cost me in vet bills...not to mention the pain and suffering of my animals.
Is there a difinitive - ACURATE listing of safe houseplants ANYWHERE? ANYONE?
Please and thank you in advance.

be quite serious. What a vet told me is the reason
you don't hear the warning against chocolate with cats
is because they generally don't LIKE chocolate - so
they don't see any chocolate poisonings because cats
aren't eating the stuff. But if you have a cat who
actually likes it, you have to do everything in your
power to keep them away from it. The dog too. It's
really not good.
I saw a story on TV once about a dog who ate an entire
chocolate cake off the table - including the knife -
and the vets were more concerned about the toxicity of
the chocolate than they were about getting the knife
out of his stomach. He swallowed it whole and didn't
puncture anything - they were able to perform surgery
to remove it. Lucky dog. :)
