Hi, I have been rescuing FeLV+ cats for 13yrs. I have lost some as young
as 3 mos. and others to pass on due to problems associated with old age.
I have a wonderful Vet that works with me to do the best we can do for
the positives. I know many on this list do many kinds of treatments to
purlong the life of "Sick/lill"
My Vet and I refer to it as the FeLV has "Kicked In" We have discovered
and feel that these treatments really do not purlong any kind of life
for these cats. I can go to bed tonight with a house full of healthy
appearing cats and wake up i n the morning to have a very sick cat where
the "FeLV has kicked in". I may go 2yrs without loosing one and then I
can loose 3 in a short period of time. This is also true with a friend
of mine who also rescues FeLV+ cats. This is something I have come to
terms with. I just try to give them lots of love. If they live to be
only 3mos or 12yrs when they pass on they know they were loved and
wanted. None of these cats die feeling they were unwanted. In the last
13yrs I have had aprox. 60 cats pass thru my home. When someone asks me
how I can do it my answer is I have been blessed with the number of cats
that have passed thru my life. If I only rescued FeLV negative cats
there would be no way I could have had 60 cats in my life the past
13yrs. What I am trying to say is that by taking in the positive ones I
am able to give love and a home to more cats.
