By GNU, do you mean GCC? Yes, GCC 4.4 won't work probably. I'm afraid
that we don't support Intel compiler directly but you could succeed.

This can be little bit confusing as version numbering scheme of FEniCS
components has changed in the past. But now, you should install the
same version (stable 1.5.0 or development 1.6.0dev) of all the FEniCS
components: FIAT, UFL, FFC, Instant, DOLFIN and optionally UFLACS and
mshr.
