You've probably just been lucky. I have seen 0.9.x (and 0.3.x) crashing 
on several different platforms. Everything works in the beginning, 
sometimes for a few weeks, but then I add more and more documents, the 
index gets larger, and at some point querys just start segfaulting. At 
least I haven't seen any more indexing segfaults since 0.9.x, that's 
definetely an improvement...
