Because it is necessary to be able to indicate whether e.g. 3-channel means left, right, center or left, right, LFE. Less critical for AC3 since the encoded stream has info that allows you to usually make the correct guess. > Extensible is not supported by Standalone Players neither allmost all Software > Players. Because there are two "bugs"/misfeatures/issues here, and it's not entirely clear which one causes you (the most) problems. It's unlikely anyone will seriously start working on either unless it's clear which (or both) actually give a benefit and there's test-cases to test one without the other. > Introducing a header Format into a Tool doesnt help if no player can use it. According to all the information I have that is just not true, and the header does not cause any issues for WMP. It is likely it does for other players, but I know that for sure only for MPlayer and that is fixed. For everything else I currently can't be sure it is not the bad interleaving that causes the issues. If re-encoding the AC3 fixes the issue for WMP, but not for older MPlayer and other players then we know fairly certain that is what causes the issue for other players. Same for the patch in superseder: the players this fixes things for even with -acodec copy are those where the header is the _only_ issue. I suspect that are none. ________________________________________________ FFmpeg issue tracker <[email protected]> <https://roundup.ffmpeg.org/issue2371> ________________________________________________
