Agreed. I mention it simply because AFAIK DVD recorders converting from analog will almost always produce interlaced files. However, more important is that the entire process of converting analog tapes to digital is full of pits and perils, and the conversion artifacts will play hob with any processing (like de-interlacing).
The best route, of course, is to capture into a lossless format and process from there. May not help the OP.
