Thought you folk would like to hear about a very lucky sheep. Excuse
cross-posting...
A ram lamb born inside one of the many minefields in the Falklands (legacy
of the 1982 invasion by Argentina) finally - four years after being born -
got itself within reach of the boundary fence just as its owner's neighbour
was passing by... seizing the opportunity he grabbed the animal and
managed to drag it under the fence. It was heaved into the back of a
Landrover, with the help of two other people, filling the space, and was
later shorn. The fleece weighed 26kg (57.2#) - the belly wool being 2kg of
this...
The wool is worthless at this length but at least that sheep lived to tell
the tale - too light to get blown up it had grown fat on the lush grazing
inside the minefield fence, growing this huge fleece. Must have felt pretty
strange losing all that weight! and who knows, another year's growth might
just have been enough weight for it to detonate a mine and blow itself up!!
Is this fleece weight a record??
