Is there a particular reason you don't want to wash it with detergent
and hot water?  That will get out all the stickiness and most of the
dirt.  Then precarding will get out the dirty tips.  Your wool will then
be perfectly ready for spinning from the lock, drumcarding, handcarding,
and combing.
