>> Another test is whether or not what I quote and attribute would benefit the original copyright holder or not. Clearly my quoting and giving attribution to my source does not cast Reuters in a negative light, and does not benefit me financially in any way. It benefit them with free publicity and might attract more readers to their website, thus very indirectly benefitting them financially.<< This same situation has come up in a CompuServe Forum, in which I am a staffer. We have been warned by Reuters, etc., that uploading an article in its entirety, even giving credit to the source, is an infringement of copyright laws. Permission must be obtained from the source, before anything can be taken from any print medium and posted anywhere else. Failure to do so infringes on copyright law. Short quotes, of a few words or so, are okay, as long as the source is quoted and the rest of the information is paraphrased. Somewhere on the Reuters' site, there is a statement to the effect that everything contained on the site may not be re-produced in any form, without prior permission/authorization. My comment came from concern for the list, and for no other reason. wrnk d2 To stop mail temporarily mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: set nomail To restore send: set mail
