Me, too--I think it's because I can look up frequently, and see the
horizon, which keeps my inner ear happy. While trying to read anything
at all requires my attention downwards, and then I feel sick right away.
The type of road makes a difference, too. More or less straight, level
highways are fine, but windy roads are murder, can't even knit then :)
