to see what's been happening - found this thread.

It's not clear to me either, but they work fine. There's a two-burner
model hanging on the wall not two feet from this computer and it's been
keeping me and my fibers toasty for six or seven years. Difficult to say
if there has been any long term brain damage from smelling anything, but
some people do think I'm a little strange.

These fireplaces are very popular here in the armpit of the northeast,
(where we presently have 16" and it's still coming down) and the wood
mantel types are very pretty. They use the imitation logs. Mine is like
the one in the center but it's a little cheapy and only has two burners.
I'm trying to promote a mantel/log for the living room as a standby
during power outages when the oil burner goes on vacation.
