Yep, this should be pretty OK for a beginner.........and although it suggests double points you could possibly use a 16" circular needle until you can't manage when decreasing at the top.
Plus it will give you an idea on how easy hats can be. The good thing about hats you only have to make one whereas if you have struggled to make one glove or sock you are then faced with number2! Only my opinion :-)

Thanks for the helpful pattern pages. They're great. I am a beginner knitter
and want to make a hat for my husband from our own wool. Does anyone have a
favorite knitting list that will tolerate dumb questions? Particularly ones
from a spinner.
