Hello Cathy
Southern Alpacas have passed your email message on to me, along with the NZ
Black and Coloured Sheep Breeders Association.
I am Cheryl and my company, Stansborough Fibres wove the fabric for the
'Lord of the Rings' Movie, particularly the Elven Cloak Fabric. It is our
own design and we are also the only official merchandisers of this fabric,
The Article in the 'Spin Off' Magazine last year, was about the special and
unusual sheep we breed for our worsted fabrics. We also have a herd of
alpacas whose fibre we use for this purpose also.
We have our own commercial looms and weaving mill in
Wellington, where we process and finish all of our products from fibres
grown on our large farm. We have our own Gallery in Auckland.

The fabric design is copyright for obvious commercial reasons and we are
sorry, but we cannot give out the actual construction of this design. We
have had many enquiries, but it is a very special design and was created by
ourselves. It is made using the natural shades of our grey sheep,
'Stansborough Gotlands' using the dark and light shades in the warp and weft
weaves. It is a three dimensional and made from our fully worsted undyed
yarns. We sometimes use our alpaca worsted yarn in combination with this
design, which works well.
The fabric is usually commercially finished for us to enhance the silky
lustre of the fibre and handle and drape of the fabric. This can change the
finished affect quite remarkable depending on the end product required.
I hope this helps with your enquiry and if you need any further help, please
do not hesitate to contact us further.
We do sell the fabric, throws, wraps and scarves direct to keen LOR
enthusiasts all over the world in this special magic,' Lord of the Rings'
Design.
Thanks for your enquiry and Happy New Year.
Regards
Cheryl
