A bunch of museums in Dallas are putting together a quilt-themed set of displays. They have a somewhat primitive website at <http://www.quiltmania.org> if anyone wants to take a look.
Someone visited a link from my sister's quilt store down there to my studio site, and asked me to help provide ideas for the program at The Science Place in Dallas. Here's what she asked: <<Could you think of any cool, hands-on, quick demos for the science of fiber? We plan to compare quilt-fillers (polyester, wool, etc.) for their warmth, dye different fabrics with the same dye and see how they come out different colors, and experiement with indelible inks. Could you share any suggestions?>> All I could come up with on the spur of the moment was handcarding cotton and wool into mini batts like old time quilters would have done, and (if they can do it) flame tests of wool, cotton, and the synthetics, pointing out the fire resistance of wool :) Anyone else have any ideas I can pass along?
