I have the most beautiful fleeces from both Janet Heppler and Terry Mendenhall. I can never resist the Mendenhall fleeces in particular, especially the lusciously colored fine ones; it's probably a good thing for my storage room that I moved to Boston and they don't jump out to tempt me so often. I bet the others a beautiful too. Now I have a perverse desire to buy more fleece. Phooey.

Jekka in Boston now (used to be NYC, before that Binghamton, before that Berkeley, I've been on the list for probably 7 years)

I'm working at putting together a directory of small breeders and fiber
businesses in California (though, interest has spread to include Oregon
and Washington too.)

There are a few breeders in the Covelo area in Mendocino County who are
doing amazing things with fiber and winning their fair share of wool
shows.

Linnet Lockhart @ Red Bud Wool Farm, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
www.redbudwoolfarm.com
her friend, Barbara Thrasher [EMAIL PROTECTED] (I think she was
crossing merino with lincoln and getting georgeous results.)
Janet Heppler, Nebo Rock Ranch, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Terry Mendenhall, [EMAIL PROTECTED], www.woolranch.com
Susan Ohman, [EMAIL PROTECTED], www.ohman-livestock.com (check out the
Wensleydale crossses! And her son is the best shearer that I know!)

If Janet and Linnet don't have what you're looking for, ask for a reference.

And, please, anyone contacting these breeders, please let them know that
I referred you.
