1) I don't have a warping paddle. No problem--grab a wooden spurtle from the kitchen and drill four offset holes in it.
2) I don't know how to use one. I don't know anyone who knows how to use one. I can't find any instructions on the web on how to use one (yes, I did find several books I could order, but see above reference to *rare* free afternoon--and a book wouldn't get here by today). I have seen a few pictures of one in action, but normally it's just going around the warping board happily trailing threads, and not negotiating that turn around the cross. I did have someone at a Spin-In (no looms or warping boards around) explain the concept while waving a paddle around.
Well believe it or not, after a couple of hours (and using a couple of skeins of WalMart's finest) I got the hang of it--at least using four threads. I'll challenge six later.
But here's The Big Question. While the yarn is going smoothly on the boards, it's forming a twisted cord behind the paddle. I have to stop every couple of passes and untwist everything. I've tried different permutations of turning the paddle when I go around the ends, but to no avail. Is there a trick I should know??
