I think it is the temperature. I took a reading with my cooking thermometer and it was only 120 or so by the time it got into the washer. I also bought some Dawn yesterday, so will work on it more today. Thanks for the info on tar weed too. I have not seen any of this around here. It looks more like mud stuck in with grease.
