I'm trying to make an Akha spindle for an upcoming class. I've been checking on www and find shaft lengths from 8 - 12". For the whorl I'm using a 2" toy wheel with 1/4" dowel shaft. Does anyone have any experience with this type of spindle? If so, would you please advise me about shaft length? Does the diameter of the whorl determine the shaft length? Any help will be appreciated. I see Spinfree has a booklet but, as usual, I don't have time to do mail order for one. TIA Anita in sunny, warm NH, USA
