Fibernet is graciously provided to subscribers world wide. Most list members
probably use a Windows operating system. Some use Mac's and some of us might
even be using Linux ... I do.

On my system, I can configure my preferences to recognize all kinds of
diacritical marks if these are made using the the native language keyboard.
However, it will not recognize symbols cut-and-pasted from within, for
example, MS Word as it doesn't recognize the typical ASCII code which
Microsoft uses (Alt + 0176 one the numeric keypad is the code for the
"degree" symbol). Even some Windows HTML editors won't recognize these codes
and if text is cut-and-pasted from MS Word into these editors, the resulting
HTML file displays an alpha-numeric representation of the symbol.

The bottom line is, in my opinion, it that email should be written in plain
text. This takes into consideration the entire readership.

Thanks, Ron, for a great list.
