I had the same problem with almost the same kind of silk thread. Er, yarn.

I used a wooden swift. I had to cut the yarn, at the knot, and sacrifice about 
a yard of yarn, in order to get the yarn to wind off easily. I also had to 
watch what I was doing. Anytime the yarn looked like it was tangling, I stopped 
the swift and worked at any small knots.

I finally just gave up trying to go from swift to bobbin winder. I just pulled 
out a bunch of yarn, let it pile up on the floor, and wound that onto the 
winder. Oddly enough, the yarn didn't tangle up as it went from the swift to 
the floor, to the winder. Weird.
