Wow. Robin's post made me want to do all that and more. But I have fibromyalgia so that much fibre stuff I think is out of the picture unless my DH suddenly gets more interested in animals when we retire. He has a real fascination with alpacas but I don't know how far it goes.

I just started off knitting, after a life with some kind of needlework with me at all times from the time I was old enough to hold a needle and make doll clothes. There was sewing (making all my own clothes in the 60's so I could have the latest fashions), and quilting handed down from my grandmother, always knew embroidery, and needlepoint. I only learned to knit after I emigrated to Australia. Then it kind of took over my life. I had to learn to spin. I had to learn about all different kinds of fibre animals. I had to go to fairs and the annual sheep show. I had to learn how to process raw fibre. I had to cultivate sources of fibre all over the world.

Now like Holly I have this deep urge to spin. I would spin all the time but the pain in my hands won't let me. And when you spin you have to knit too! Taking these animal hairs and making something beautiful out of them is so satisfying and I never knew this was in my future. What if I had never learned to knit?
