Regions had certain patterns associated with them, and the fisherman's
sweaters were generally dark colored - dark blue mostly.   The majority of
the patterning on the working sweaters was above the waistband, so the rest
could be tucked into the pants.  And the sleeves were somewhat short to keep
them out of the way.  The white sweaters were "for good" and the ones we
know as Arans were developed for the tourist trade from these "good"
sweaters, generally accepted as being mostly during the 1930s - got this
from several sources.
