I do something similar with very sturdy lawn & leaf bags. I put an old knee high stocking over the nozzle of my vacuum. Helps to have 2 people doing it together. One to hold the vacuum & one to hold the neck of the bag.
I've tried it with flimsier bags, but it doesn't seem to work as well - the bags rip & tear, and I can't maintain as good a seal for as long. Of course, I am just trying to store my own fleeces, I do not put them in boxes to ship.
