IF you bought a front loader with temperature selection, better yet one with a "sanitizing" cycle you can felt really well with it. I do loosely woven wool yardage regularly and the results are very nice. The felting is harder with increased temperature. I do test pieces on full cycles and then do the actual fabric on the one I like best. I use an ASKO machine and it is precise enough that one 70 degree cycle is just like another (temps in Celsius). But then, I've never been one to nervously open the washer every minute or two.
