Harrisville has cotton loops that make a nice potholder.
They are a bit pricey, but much nicer then the other ones
I have found.
I'm very glad to hear that -- weaving potholders is a
wonderful way to learn about stripes, plaids and checks.
I vividly remember thinking that the way to make one-on-one
checks was to make a warp of loops that were alternately
yellow and blue, then weave yellow and blue loops
alternately -- what a surprise to get single-thread stripes
that were at right angles to each other on opposite sides!
And it's perfectly obvious that it had to happen, when one
has the magnified weave of a looper loom to examine.
After getting a looper loom for my toybox -- and throwing
out the two bags of loops I'd bought with it -- I did use it
to weave a swatch with wool yarn. (I doubt that inelastic
yarn would have worked.) If I recall correctly (the swatch
is no longer around)I wound the pegs with wool in both
directions, then darned with contrasting wool on both biases
to bind the two layers together, and got a very interesting
but quite useless swatch of cloth.
A cursory check of the toy cupboard doesn't show any looper
loom. The cupboard is very untidy, it having been years
since any children got into it, but I suspect that the loom
is gone rather than buried.
A pity, because a private communication tells me that *wool*
loops are available -- I might weave those myself. The
address given is

A Google on "Marty's Socks" turned up "Marty's Socks 4 Less
e-bay store", which offers not only "loops for weaving", but
socks knitted to order. If I come back from Columbia City
empty-handed, I may write Marty a letter. (You'd think
*somebody* would mass-produce wool socks!)
