Thank you to all who have responded. I am waiting for the insurance adjuster
to come by and thinking about what to do.
For now fresh air with the help of a fan is all I'm doing.
One piece washed last evening - gently in my usual Orvus substitute - smells
quite fresh this morning. I'm taking things like the sheepskins from the
loom bench and decorative hangings home to put on the wash line, and am
considering the various ways suggested - coffee, charcoal, soda, etc.
It seems that the ozone method would not be good except for possibly some
really problematic items.
Note: the wool things took much more odor than the linens. One partial
strick we found still smelled just like natural retted flax and not at all
smoky. The imported linens as well as my own handwoven items are not as
heavily scented as scoured wool.
The cones of Scottish Shetland weaving wool - with spinning oil left in
don't seem to be that badly "scented" - same with handspun skeins still
lightly in the grease.
