<<Since I have these little cheviots, I'd really appreciate some feedback about cheviot wool from those who have worked with it. Don't hold back, please! Tell me the good, the bad, the ugly.>>

I didn't even realize there are mini cheviots, but I have spun a lot of fleece from full sized Cheviots, from Scotland, from the US and from NZ. It varies an amazing amount in quality, fineness and luster.

Some of the nicest I've used came from NZ, and was medium length, with a nice amount of luster, and very soft. A lot what you want in fleece is dictated by how you will use it - do you plan to knit with most of it? weave it?

There are actually two distinct Scots breeds, Hill Cheviot and Border Cheviot.

Carol Rhoades did a "Fiber Basics" feature on Cheviots in the most recent issue of Spin Off (winter 06). You might want to check that out, as well as Jane Fournier's book In Sheep's Clothing.
