Sounds like you have really had a go with that AVL. I must say that 
even though the possibilities are incredible I never enjoyed weaving 
using a dobby-type system. I felt very mechanical rather than like I 
was "creating". I figured with the dobby why not use the big power AVLs 
that we also had. Those things turned out some incredible yardage, and 
the woman who ran the two of them (at the same time) was amazing... but 
the foot treadle dobby was always problematic and a struggle with it 
just willy-nilly deciding to either drop or not pick up harnesses. 
Seemed we were always trying to adjust it or tweak it, or some fool 
thing. We had to watch it constantly and for that reason we all could 
weave much faster on our regular floor looms. I do, however know people 
that swear by them.

I got a set of photos on the way I wind a sectional beam. I use a stand 
called a creel and no tension box. If you want to see the system I can 
email the photos to you. My DH built my creel from looking at a 
commercial one.
