Cotton lace and other true cottons can be boiled in soapy water. That's how we washed all of our bedding, curtains, underthings and table cloths as well as handkerchiefs. We boiled water and soap in a huge copper kettle, agitated the laundry with a long paddle, moved it to the tin tub and rubbed special stains on the washboard. Then it went into the rinse tub, with endless pails of cold water from the pump (pumped by myself and lugged to the laundry room) Then each piece was wrung out and hung on the laundry line. We did this every week. I love my GE washing machine. Best regards, Antje www.wc_moty.livejournal.com
