We saw our first crocus yesterday! We tapped maples for the first time, getting a total of just under 3 1/2 pints of syrup. No lambs yet, another month to go approximately. And I've got the wool itch real bad, but have much painting still to do--just started the living room yesterday, and will have to repaint Bethany's bathroom before spring--we're putting in a new vanity first. I keep thinking about redoing the kitchen, as well, which would bring all the rooms up to date, but I just don't see that I could a) stand painting one more room and b) finding the time before spring arrives. Besides, I'd have to scrub all those walls before painting!

New Knitting Store in Northern Lower Michigan!: For those within a reasonable drive of Gaylord, Michigan, a new knitting store is opening there tomorrow (March 17)--ImagiKnit. Smallish, but looks to be well stocked (nice range of natural fibers, from low end to high, some synthetics) and run by a very nice woman. I got a sneak peak last week, and I plan to go back tomorrow--sure sign of a decent store in this yarn-starved area :) I was able to buy one of the 'old' style plastic ball winders there--the type trimmed with red rather than blue. I've always hated the blue-trimmed ones--the ball flies off the cone at the least speed, and toilet paper rolls don't fit it properly. Plus the clamp of the blue one is harder to use and doesn't work as well. I guess, somehow, some feedback got back to the company, yippee!

I broke down and bought a used copy of Berta Frey's Designing and Drafting for Handweavers since my 'walked off' copy never came home. That and Sheep and Wool are taking all my reading time.

Quick loom report: just finished off my share of our samples for our state weaving newsletter, using a Schacht Baby Wolf. Not a bad little loom for portability, although I don't think it will fit in our new van without taking out some seats. The AVL keeps having fits and starts, but Bethany has been weaving on it--she's done about 3 towels' worth of weaving so far. The dobby is *mostly* behaving. And I trapeze warped my "spring tea set" onto the Schacht floor loom, but haven't had time to start threading.

I am enjoying the studio being painted and somewhat tidied and reorganized. Now if only I can find the time to go through my files...

Holly
